Emilia Cardamone is an Architectural and Construction Engineer, with several years of experience in the market, covering different aspects such as Digital Construction, Digital Twins and Smart Buildings.

She is currently working as Associate Director- Digital within the Digital Real Estate team at Turner & Townsend, helping clients set up their digital strategy, Smart Buildings capability and Digital Twins foundations.

Before Joining Turner and Townsend, she worked as Programme Manager for the Digital Built Environment stream within BSI – British Standards Institution, where she has been responsible for certification schemes related to BIM, Smart Cities and Carbon Management in infrastructure.

Emilia is highly involved in Stakeholder engagement, facilitating discussions and Workshops and Speaking at international conferences within the Global Built Environment Sector.

She is currently part of the Women in BIM community and sits in the advisory group of the Digital Twin Hub.

Andy has been working in the building services industry since 1986. Initially training as an air conditioning engineer he continued to develop his skills in building services through hands-on installation, maintenance and commissioning culminating in a career in the emerging BMS industry in the mid 1990’s.

Over the years he has held engineering and leadership roles with contractors, technology providers and manufacturers including the position of Technical Manager at Sontay. In 2006 he started a control systems contracting business with two partners and remained managing director there until 2014 before setting out on his own to provide contract consultancy services.

Recent appointments include managing the EMEA critical systems environmental monitoring strategy for a large investment bank and building services commissioning manager at a landmark medical research facility in London. Control systems and BMS are his area of expertise and he has gained a wealth of experience working within the building services industry.

He is passionate about innovation and especially the convergence of sensing and I.T. systems establishing BMS as a proven technology in the “Internet of Things” revolution.

Richard Reid is the Managing Director of Aonyx, a firm that specialises in the design and installation of audio-visual and home automation systems.
Richard has been involved with the firm since its inception and grown its reputation with property developers, M&E consultants, architects and interior designers to deliver technology into residential developments, mixed-use and commercial schemes across London and the South East.

Andre brings over 20 years of experience in CRE, where he managed large teams in operational and technology roles that oversaw multiple portfolios of large blue-chip clients across multiple sectors.

Shane Beck is an enthusiastic professional. With a proven track record of managing corporate blue-chip clients, Data Centres, local government & professional service. Shane has also managed within petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical & Hospitality sectors across 18years within with the facilities management arena. More recently Shane has moved into the PFI healthcare sector heading up the Apleona UK PPP business overseeing the operation of three hard services 30-year PFI hospital projects across the UK.

Additional to his Account director role Shane operates as the Authorising Engineer & Electrical Principal Duty Holder for Apleona UK business & is an active member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology

James is responsible for the Smart Buildings and Technology strategy at SES Engineering Services and Wates. He believes that digital enablement, data, and smart technology are the key enablers to delivering engaging, healthy, efficient, and high performing buildings.

He believes that digital engineering is the golden thread that connects the concept design right through to aftercare and understands that the wisdom that we gain from data has the power to positively influence occupant experience, optimised performance, future designs, sustainable procurement, and our environment.

James is passionate about promoting the importance that the building services (operational technology – OT) and building communications network (information technology – IT) play in delivering the technological foundation of a smart building. Enhancing this already data-rich environment with the supplementary deployment of IOT technology (sensors) and making it accessible through smart platforms and apps is enabled by the technological foundation that needs to be in place from day one.

He thinks of a smart building as an ecosytem and each system or technology as an enabler for another to operate or for it to share data and functionality with another to improve an outcome, whether that’s operational, performance or occupant experience.

Volker is experienced in developing and implementing data strategies for business and ventures.

He was the Global Chief Data Officer, Arup, and a member of the Group Board Digital Executive. Leading the firms data strategy across Arup’s £1.7bn revenue and 16,000 staff. He has worked as project director on projects including the London Olympics and developed a global digital service business with revenues over £40m.

Volker was one of 53 Arup Fellows (out of a global staff of 16,000). This accolade honours those who have significantly contributed to Arup’s excellence in innovation and design.

He is an experienced nonexecutive director and keynote speaker. Volker has led international foresight and research programmes with leading academic and industry partners.

John is responsible for the Smart Environment Buildings and Technology strategy.

John has a long history in building digital enablement, data, smart technology and cybersecurity as the key enablers to delivering engaging, healthy, efficient, and high performing buildings.

John has extensive skills in developing the built space that aligns with the client’s requirements and operation needs. The process as Master System Integration (MSI) manages the ecosystem team members in generating and developing new technical solutions.

Jim Sword is a Sales Professional who has worked within the Building Automation industry for over 30 years and has extensive knowledge of Building Energy Management Systems (BeMS) and integration with other Building Automation Systems such as Fire, Security, Access & Lighting. He has supported selection and impementation of systems in a wide variety of projects including major office developments, research sites, education establishments, healtcare facilities and retail outlets.
Jim believes that integrated solutions have a large role to play in making building environments efficient, safe and comfortable but can also introduce automated processes that assist with compliance, which is becoming increasingly more important.

Born in 1987, Alessandro has a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering with studies at POLIMI in Milano, EPFL in Lausanne and UCSD in San Diego. During his studies, Alessandro made research on IoT, cloud technologies and smart-buildings. Alessandro has perfected his education on business topics with courses at ELIS Business School and MIP Politecnico di Milano. He co-founded both Bottega52 and Sofia Locks, being in charge of the Strategic Business Development for both the companies and acting as CEO at Sofia Locks, a company providing IoT Access Control Solution in Europe. In October 2021, Sofia Locks was acquired with a majority stake by ISEO Ultimate Access Technologies. Today, Alessandro is also an external professor at LIUC University on digital platforms and artificial intelligence topics.

Paul Rogers is the Managing Director of Tridium EMEA and holds a Master's Degree in Engineering. Before his current position Paul led the global business development team in Tridium supporting customers in the USA, EU and Asia. Previously Paul was a Product and Marketing manager at Samsung Electronics (HVAC) and a project manager at NG Baily.

As is the case with most in the building technology industry, Ciarans journey to designing Smart Buildings was somewhat unconventional.
A Building Services Engineer by qualification, his first exposure to Smart Buildings was when he joined a BMS manufacturer which subsequently sparked his interest in building technology. Spending nearly ten years as a BMS engineer working on projects worldwide, gave him a broad understanding of the technologies involved in Smart Buildings and how they were implemented in the 'real world'.
He brings this real world experience into the design of Smart Buildings where he now leads the Building Intelligence team at Hoare Lea delivering better buildings for people and planet.

I manage the Installer channel for Sonos in UK and Ireland, developing this Vertical strategy and creating new channels. Helping to bring Smart Home Audio to the Pro Av, Residential and Commercial spaces. I have been with Sonos for 14 years and have a very strong knowledge of our Products and those we work with.

I lead the EU Sonos advisory panel with a board of 25 key installer partners, helping to bring EU news to the US and beyond.

Dr. Jimmy Abualdenien has spent over ten years developing enterprise cloud solutions, specifically for managing and validating AEC/O data throughout its lifecycle. He obtained his Ph.D. in computer science from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. During this time, he collaborated with Nemetschek on innovation projects focused on AI and cloud solutions. As of 2022, Jimmy is leading product management for Nemetschek's digital twin offering. This involves creating solutions for efficiently managing and connecting diverse data sources, as well as assisting in making informed decisions.

He has a demonstrated history of working in the building management systems and controls sector. He was president of the Building Controls Industry Association for four years.

Over a 20 year career, Lucas has been bridging the gap between construction and operation by facilitating the procurement, delivery and management of asset information. Having held information management roles in the development, design, construction and operation of large, real estate assets, Lucas saw opportunity for the use of data at each stage in an asset's lifecycle and has worked to manage its transition and exploitation from one stage to the next.

Right now Lucas works as the strategic lead for Glider Technology, managing the go-to-market strategy for creating value for asset owners from the information produced from design and construction.

Prior to joining Glider, Lucas started the European business for a well-known digital twin software company, growing the business in the region whilst contributing to the development of the software.

Andy has been working in the building services industry since 1986. Initially training as an air conditioning engineer he continued to develop his skills in building services through hands-on installation, maintenance and commissioning culminating in a career in the emerging BMS industry in the mid 1990’s.

Over the years he has held engineering and leadership roles with contractors, technology providers and manufacturers including the position of Technical Manager at Sontay. In 2006 he started a control systems contracting business with two partners and remained managing director there until 2014 before setting out on his own to provide contract consultancy services.

Recent appointments include managing the EMEA critical systems environmental monitoring strategy for a large investment bank and building services commissioning manager at a landmark medical research facility in London. Control systems and BMS are his area of expertise and he has gained a wealth of experience working within the building services industry.

He is passionate about innovation and especially the convergence of sensing and I.T. systems establishing BMS as a proven technology in the “Internet of Things” revolution.

Melanie is an Associate at BIM Academy, specialising in BIM and information management according to ISO 19650. She manages several projects across multiple sectors within the UK and internationally and works closely with clients to develop bespoke digital strategies for project and asset management. Her current projects include working with a large health authority in Canada and several NHS Trusts in the UK as part of the New Hospitals Programme.

Melanie’s specialisms include change management, standardisation and digital collaboration, and she acts as Regional Lead for Newcastle-upon-Tyne for Women in BIM. Melanie holds a PhD from Edinburgh Napier University, which looked into the micro-level factors to an effective macro-level diffusion of BIM, including the gap between perceived and actual efficacy of BIM understanding and skills. Chris Janes is Business Development Manager at QMotion EMEA. He has 30 years’ experience working in sales, marketing and business development roles at companies such as Imerge, Digital Plumbers, AV Racks, Armour Home Electronics and Legrand. Chris has a deep understanding of the home technology industry and significant experience in how best to support integrators to grow their business. At QMotion, Chris is responsible for growing the brand, relationship-building and educating property developers, M&E consultants, architects, contractors and installers about the benefits motorised window treatments can bring to their schemes.

Viswesh currently is an Industry Principal and has 10 years of market research and consulting experience with expertise in a wide range of industry sectors including smart buildings, smart cities, green buildings, building automation, energy management, HVAC, construction and property development, elevators and escalators, and fire safety & security solutions. He manages several projects across multiple sectors globally and works closely with clients to provide strategies and recommendations that effectively address their business needs and is widely regarded as a thought leader in the Homes & Buildings industry.

He holds a master’s degree from the University of Florida, USA. He is also a gold medalist from Anna University, India, and a certified Energy Management Engineer. He has executed and delivered challenging strategic engagements for several global conglomerates within the building technologies market and authored the best‐selling research reports across markets in this industry. He is also a multiple award winner in recognition of his outstanding performance and contribution at Frost & Sullivan.

Graeme is currently the UK & Ireland Digital Energy Marketing Manager for Schneider Electric and has been involved in the building controls industry for more than 30 years, after starting his career as a Project Engineer at Lidworth Ltd. He later moved on to Bristol Management Systems before spending 19 years at Trend Control Systems, where he worked his way up from Regional Field Services Manager to Marketing Director. Early in 2019 Graeme was elected on to the BCIA’s Management Committee and he will now use his years of experience gained in the industry to build on the BCIA’s position as a leading influence on standards, professionalism and innovation for its members.
